Mission Statement/Objectives:

 

Shearwater Education Foundation aims to lead policy and program change through the experience of designing and running Shearwater High School. Shearwater High School aims to reengage disconnected youth and graduate each one ready for college, work, and life.

 

Service Opportunities:

 
  • Shearwater Mentorship Program: Utilizes adult volunteers to provide individual support that is emotionally safe, and personally meaningful to a Shearwater student. By becoming part of the social network of adult and community members who care about the youth, a mentor can help a Shearwater student with the transition into adulthood. A Shearwater mentor can help a youth by making positive life choices and maximize their potential developing and reaching academic, career and personal goals.
  • Math Tutors: Assist students with a computer based math program which will require the tutor to assist students with a variety of remedial math problems.
  • Reading Tutor: Assist students with a computer based reading program which will require the tutor to read to and be read to by the student.
 
Days/Times:  
  • Shearwater Mentorship Program: Days and times are up to mentor and student - usually after 5pm on weekdays, anytime on weekends. Commitment is once a week for 1 hr.
  • Math Tutors: Any day Mondays-Thursdays, 2-3pm
  • Reading Tutors: Any day Mondays-Thursdays, 2-3pm
 

Volunteer Pre-Requisites:

 

- Background Check (no cost)
- Application
- Training Session
- Must be 21 years of age
