Mission Statement/Objectives:


Gateway Greening is a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through community gardening. Since 1984, Gateway Greening has helped transform neglected and abandoned lots in St. Louis into productive gardens and beautiful landscaped areas. Our mission is to provide resources and training to neighborhood groups who believe in their communities and want to reclaim them from urban decay.


Service Opportunities:

  • Internships: Looking for some great experience in the areas of sustainability, the environment, urban agriculture, and more? Visit our list of internships!
  • Bell Garden: 3871 Bell (WALKING DISTANCE TO CAMPUS ) Gain experience in garden maintenance and interact with Master Gardeners who are on the cutting edge of gardening practices at Gateway Greening’s demonstration garden and plant distribution site!
  • City Seeds Urban Farm: 2200 block of Pine (WALKING DISTANCE TO METROLINK) Work alongside clients to help with general maintenance and provide leadership opportunities on this 2.5-acre vegetable farm that provides jobs training and horticulture therapy to St. Patrick Center clients!
  • Bilingual Volunteers: Our Senior Garden Program supports a garden at Crown Center for Senior Living. This program currently needs bilingual volunteers (English and Chinese and/or Russian) to assist the GGI Community Educator and seniors during gardening programs.
  • Bell Garden: Saturdays 9am-1pm
  • City Seeds Urban Farm: Any day of the week, 7:30am-11:30am
  • Bilingual Volunteers: Tuesdays 9:30-10:30am
